    Hey Gang!

I just wanted to stop by and update you all on my Uncle Paul. He is doing fantastic. His doctor stated that he has never seen someone recover so quickly as my uncle did. He was only in the induced coma for 4 days until Saturday and was talking to me earlier this afternoon.

God is good or should I say He is AWESOME! My family has come and gone visiting with him in 2 minute spurts. I have been here since 1:30ish pm and feel compelled to stay until 7:00pm. I will be back everyday this week and then I’m off to my weekend FUNdraisers in Columbus. I will continue to keep you posted. But things are the way I expected which was for my Abba to show up and show out and He did.

Some FHLJ news…we were at Scottish Rite this Sunday June 30th and had a blast. I want to give a huge SHOUT OUT to my volunteers who make this organization flow. I will be working exclusively on the FUNdraisers throughout the remainder of the summer so if you are in the Columbus, GA area stop by and support us.

Speaking of FUNdraisers, we have partnered with the Atlanta division Krogers and will have a new way for our supporters to donate. It will be connected to their rewards cards. Everytime they shop and use their cards FHLJ will receive a percentage of their purchases up to $8000 per quarter. Needless to say we are excited about this new opportunity. I will send out an email blast with more details before the end of July.

Also, we have partnered with CommonKindness for those coupon clipping supporters who want to save money and have a percentage of their coupons sent to FHLJ on a quarterly basis. The donation potential is unlimited. Stop by the website for the details.

Last but not least please stop by the website and check out the new pixs from our latest event. Thank you for your continued support. Remember to be inspired, be motivated and be encouraged. Many blessings!!

    Hey Gang!

I know its been awhile since I have blogged. And I am sure Joey is talking about me. šŸ™‚ Today is an important day for my family…the Goodwins, my father’s side of the family. My Uncle Paul, the youngest of the six pack is having a heart pump inserted. The anxiety is very high, but everyone has come to support each other and especially him.

His 5 hour surgery began at 8am. About a dozen of us have been here since 7am. More are expected. What struck me as the same reality from my earliest memory is how we are family, this cohesive collection of soul mates. If there was ever any family event whether a celebration, major surgery, tragedy or funeral we always seemed to gravitate to the epicenter. It’s reminiscent to the migration of a species of animals that instinctively have this innate homing device that switches on.

There is this quiet strength and as my cousin NeeNee or Dr. Goodwin-Williams would say it is understood to be here in that place at that time. The family camaraderie is palpable, profound and evident, seen and unseen. I know this last sentence is filled with redundancy, however, it had to be for me to convey the impact or potency of my meaning. Even though you would have to be present to honestly relate to or understand what I mean.

Back to the six pack…my Uncle Paul is the youngest at 61, next is my Uncle Floyd at 63, Aunt Betty at 65, Uncle George at 67, Aunt Mariah at 69 and my father Welbon or Slim is the oldest at 71. If you noticed they are exactly 2 years apart and are boy girl boy girl until you get to my Uncle Paul who was suppose to be a girl but changed this up a bit by being a boy. I don’t know how my grandparents did it but they did. And to top it all off they are all soul mates. And to me they are the six pack. Although, he is not a girl but a boy he is pretty. Actually my Aunt Betty has a running joke where she says that out of all the Goodwin offspring (10 of the second generation) Mayro (my grandfather) had the prettiest children.

This is not some arrogant statement and if you ever get a chance to meet us say at our annual family reunion the 4th Saturday in August in Harris County Georgia you would understand completely. Arrogance is not in our family fiber. We are extremely blessed with talents and gifts from our heavenly Father. Actually, the reunion starts every Friday with a fish fry followed by the reunion on Saturday culminated with Sunday church at the family church Longstreet, which is up the road. And finally, family dinner where we say our parting blessing before we fly away to where we have all nested in our lives.

We have people who are not our family that have come every year for decades and wear our t-shirts because of that soul mate stuff I mentioned earlier they experience when they are around us. Speaking of the t-shirt it is a staple of our wardrobe, some more than others. For me, today I am wearing our colors as it were. Oddly enough so far I am the only one who is. But that’s okay all you have to do is look at us and you know we are family. As they say the apple or acorn does not fall far from the tree.

When myjoey had his tragic accident 2 years ago, I only remember making 1 phone call to a family friend who has been coming to the reunion since 1993 and happened to be the last number I dialed and that’s why I called him instead of family. I was not focused when I got the dreaded call that no parent wants to get. Anyway this family friend was well you guessed it with family at some gathering and within minutes yes minutes the waiting room was filled with Goodwins. They were everywhere. After 36 hours by Joey’s bedside I was coaxed away to shower and get a bite and when I walked into the waiting room there they all were.

The love and support was yes you guessed it palpable, suddenly I felt the strength of the collective cohesive soul mates that I am the 4th generation of and myjoey was the 5th generation of lift me out of wherever I had descended. They were there throughout in various groups taking turns so I was never without several to support me. Making sure that my only focus was myjoey.

I thank God for my family, their continued influence throughout my life and Joey’s. I am grateful for that innate homing device that switches on. I look forward to when it is in the on position no matter what the reason is when it is activated.

I will keep you posted on my Uncle Paul. Pray for my family. Remember be inspired, be motivated and be encouraged.

    Many blessings!

Hello, Hello! Today is the last day of the Insanity workout. My fiance and I treated ourselves to Hibachi Supreme Buffet and Grill for completion of it. Tomorrow we will start it over. We enjoyed seeing the inches and weight go down starting in the low 260s for him and low 230s for myself. Today, June 2, 2013, he is in the low 220s and myself in the low 200s. So we deserve to treat ourselves because we were very disciplined and did not give up even when it was rough. We feel and look amazing so it is time for us to hit the beach this summer for the first time. Big thanks goes to Our Father above to help us make it through.

I hope everyone is doing well and being a blessing because we are “highly blessed and favored” (Ms. Marsha words) but I now know what it looks like and the feeling it gives me. Much much love.
