Wow, it’s been almost 3 months since anyone posted anything!!
Yep mom that’s Jose`’s saying and he still means it till this day and forever more that comes:)
Much Love
Hey Gang!
Today is my birthday and birthdays have always been very special to Joey and I. They are rule days which means that whatever we want to do for our day ruled the day. With that said I wanted to share Joey’s favorite saying that he wrote in 2005.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don’t be mean when you say it.
Hello, hope everyone’s day is going well and blessed. Put God first always. Love yall!!
Monique
I know that I stated I would let you guys know about the new healthcare plan. It is called PCIP an acronym for Pre-existing Condition Insurance Program. Let me start by saying that it is a real and very good health insurance coverage. Joey was able to go to ANY doctor and medical facility when he needed to. This ANY included specialist and special tests as well.
The program started in July 2010, but Joey did not enroll until November 2010. The premiums are based on the state you live in and unfortunately because Georgia did not want to participate, the Federal government administered it for its residents as such the premiums were among the highest. Joey’s monthly premium for November and December was $323.00. The premiums are restructured for the new year and fortunately they declined as of January 2011 to $261.00 per month for the same coverage. Then we received a notice in April the premiums would decline even further to $220.00 per month. This said to me that the government remained vigilant in keeping its word about controlling the cost of health care insurance for the American citizen. The particulars as far as deductibles and out of pocket expenses were customary for any insurance coverage that was not a HMO.
There were different levels of deductibles for individuals to choose from. Joey chose the highest which was $2000 for medical and $500 for prescriptions. The total out of pocket expense was $5950.00 in-network and $7000.00 out-of-network annually. The in-network is very extensive and we had no issues finding doctors that we needed to see. Also our existing doctors were already apart of the in-network. Joey had the option of paying a higher premium for a lower deductible but really after reviewing the figures it was a wash. His biggest concern was how the claims would be handled.
As far as how they pay claims, they were exceptional. The turn around time was in a couple of weeks from the time the claim is filed. You receive an explanation of benefits for your records as well as to review and validate the services rendered. There was information on how to appeal a decision that you disagreed with. We never experienced any issues that required an appeal.
Joey’s last need of service was from his car accident and the hospital bill alone for 2 days was over $180,000.00. He was also air lifted to the hospital which cost $20,000.00. The individual doctors totaled an additional $25,000.00. Now I know those numbers are absurd but I wanted to give you full disclosure so you would understand the scope of how this coverage works. Also, today we hear so much information on a myriad of topics in the mainstream conversation without concrete data and I did not want to be aligned in that group.
No matter the rhetoric this insurance coverage is what I believe every American is entitled to. It is by no means a free ride and it delivered what it promised in regards to pre-existing conditions. I just hope that the truth will come to light sooner than later so this country can see what is really going on with this remarkable and worthwhile program that our new President went to the mat to secure for the Joey’s in this country.
Thank you President Obama for being a man of your word and keeping a campaign promise, refreshing in the world we live in today.
Well guys that is the post about the PCIP and I hope it gives you insight and facilitates your decide about it being a good fit for you or not. But, if you are a Joey this is most certainly better than nothing.
Strong in Suffering
“Is it well with thy husband? Is it well with the child? And she answered, It is well” (2 Kings 4:26).
“Be strong, my soul!
Thy loved ones go
Within the veil.
God’s thine, e’en so;
Be strong.
“Be strong, my soul!
Death looms in view.
Lo, here thy God!
He’ll bear thee through;
Be strong.”
Hey Gang,
I have been going through some of Joey’s things that have been my keepsakes and I wanted to share with you the first poem he wrote at the age of 8. A gift that I had forgotten about until today. Enjoy and know that God is real even to the babes.
God wears His clothes blue like a blue bird
like the blue sky and
like the blue water.
His skin is pink and
His walk is like a lamb.
His hold is like a lamb and
He is strong.
He is loving firm and
He is God.
Joey Maldonado
The wind that blows can never kill
The tree God plants;
It bloweth east, it bloweth west,
The tender leaves have little rest,
But any wind that blows is best.
The tree that God plants
Strikes deeper root, grows higher still,
Spreads greater boughs, for God’s good will
Meets all its wants.
There is no storm hath power to blast
The tree God knows;
No thunderbolt, nor beating rain,
Nor lightning flash, nor hurricane;
When they are spent, it doth remain,
The tree God knows,
Through every tempest standeth fast,
And from its first day to its last
Still fairer grows.
The Breaking of the Storm
“And there arose a great storm” (Mark 4:37).
Some of the storms of life come suddenly: a great sorrow, a bitter disappointment, a crushing defeat. Some come slowly. They appear upon the ragged edges of the horizon no larger than a man’s hand, but, trouble that seems so insignificant spreads until it covers the sky and overwhelms us.
Yet it is in the storm that God equips us for service. When God wants an oak He plants it on the moor where the storms will shake it and the rains will beat down upon it, and it is in the midnight battle with elements that the oak wins its rugged fibre and becomes the king of the forest.
When God wants to make a man He puts him into some storm. The history of manhood is always rough and rugged. No man is made until he has been out into the surge of the storm and found the sublime fulfillment of the prayer: “O God, take me, break me, make me.”
A Frenchman has painted a picture of universal genius. There stand orators, philosophers and martyrs, all who have achieved pre-eminence in any phase of life; the remarkable fact about the picture is this: Every man who is pre-eminent for his ability was first pre-eminent for suffering. In the foreground stands that figure of the man who was denied the promised land, Moses. Beside him is another, feeling his way — blind Homer. Milton is there, blind and heart-broken. Now comes the form of one who towers above them all. What is His characteristic? His Face is marred more than any man’s. The artist might have written under that great picture, “The Storm.”
The beauties of nature come after the storm. The rugged beauty of the mountain is born in a storm, and the heroes of life are the storm-swept and the battle-scarred.
You have been in the storms and swept by the blasts. Have they left you broken, weary, beaten in the valley, or have they lifted you to the sunlit summits of a richer, deeper, more abiding manhood and womanhood? Have they left you with more sympathy with the storm-swept and the battle-scarred?
I did not talk to you for a couple of days. I need to know that you do not need
me to do anything for you. I think of you and Joey daily. I like to believe when we lose someone close to us, They still live through us and give us strength. The time we have spent with those we’ve lost make them a part of us.
Remember faith/hope/andlove jesus: there is a message in the name that
you created. Hold on: Old Lady Doris
praying for you
joey i miss You SO much You are a blessing to me. i heard this song in the radio And i want to dedicate it to You.
You were my strength when i was weak, You were my voice when i couldn’t speak, You were my eyes when i couldn’t see,You saw all the best there was in me, lifted me up when i couldn’t reach, You gave me faith cause You believed,im everything i am because You love me.joey You showed me i could be better And how to be better You brought out the best in me And You made me the happiest woman on earth. thank You for everything And i miss You SO much <3 <3 <3 U
Only God Knows Best
God said you were getting weary,
So He did what He knew was best.
He came and stood beside you,
And whispered, “Come and Rest.”
You bade no one a last farewell,
No, not even a good-bye.
You were gone before we knew it,
And only God knows why.
Jose “Joey” Luis Maldonado III was born in Miami, Florida November 10, 1987 at 10:06 am to Jose Luis and Marsha Michelle Maldonado II at North Shore Medical Center. He was an only child. On Mother’s Day 1990 Joey was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia at the age of 2. After nearly seven years of extensive treatment and a Bone Marrow Transplant he was blessed with a cure. Joey went on to live a full life of travel as he pursued his interests of computers and helping others. He graduated from Homeschool University in Canton, GA in May 2005 as a Hope Scholar. He enrolled to Chattahoochee Technical College for the Fall 2005 quarter majoring in Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology. In February 2005 Joey became co-founder and Program Director of the faith-based non-profit organization, Faith Hope and Love Jesus, Inc. which serves the community of individuals and families with the challenge of blood disorders and cancer.
Joey accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at the age of 8. He devoted his life to living as a walking testimony of the goodness of the Lord for all to see and to serve as an inspiration that anything is possible. Although, he was here for only 23 years, his wisdom, meekness, generosity and love for those around him was a light seen by all who met and knew him. His hope was that his life would serve as an everlasting beacon to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
My Dearly Beloved Son Myjoey…
This is the hardest thing in my life that I will ever do is to say good-bye to you. But, I must remember you are the greatest accomplishment of my life. You helped me to see the goodness of the Lord when it should not have been. You were beautiful from the inside out from the time my Father sent you to me from heaven. My answered prayer. The love of my life. You will hold my heart forever and I will be strong because you taught me how to. Faith Hope and Love Jesus is because of you and I will continue to do what we started on this journey together knowing you are there to inspire me. Now I want you to rest and know that one day I will be there to hold you again and whisper I love you sweet precious in your ear. So I guess this really is not good-bye but farewell until I see you again.
I love you deeply, completely and unconditionally in this life and the next. Agape.
Mom.
I’m Free
Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free
I’m following the path God laid for me
I took his hand when I heard Him call
I turned my back and left it all.
I couldn’t not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work, or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way
I found that place at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembering joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah, yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I’ve savored much,
Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief.
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now. He set me free.

I will miss Joey so much – he is a true inspiration and I am blessed to have known him for the short time that I did. I know you will continue to spread love and support in his honor and memory. You are in my prayers.

Joey,
You have amazed me beyond words. I am happy to have had the time I did with you although I would be plenty more happy to have more. It is comforting to know that I will one day see you again. I love you and will miss you until then.
Ms. Marsha,
I will always be here if you may ever need me. I love this foundation and would love to contribute. Joey was a truly remarkable being and was a very kind, sincere person. I believe what I loved most about Joey was his genuine personality. I’ve been told that I have that characteristic as well, and I believe that is what made us so compatible. He genuinly cared about people and showed interest in them. I can remember everytime I came home we could talk and we would pick right up like we never skipped a beat. I know that you are proud of Joey, and you should be. I will pray for you. Please remember although we as humans don’t like it, everything has a reason and God always has a plan. I love you and am here if you may ever need anything.
For those who may not know, Joey Maldonado passed away Monday May 30th from injuries in a terrible car accident on May 5/28 in Cherokee County, GA.
He was 23 years old.
His funeral services will be at 1 PM this Saturday [June 4, 2011] at New Emmanueal Baptist Church, 2055 Fairburn Road SW, Atlanta, GA 30331. His body will be laid to rest in Miami FL next Tuesday.
Please keep his mom Marsha, his fiance Jennifer, his extended family and close friends in your prayers through this extremely difficult time; and thank you in advance for your continued support and encouragement to Marsha as she clings on to her faith and continues to live out the Word of God in spite of her own condition.
Peace and blessings to all.
gone too Soon
You are probably feel that God let us down. You will say
Lord why me.When you have done all you can do and others
dont understand He will say well done. Dont let bitterness
come between you and your God. May Jesus overflow you with
Grace Love & Mercy as you go on living and obtaining your
earthy crown
I love you but God loves you more
Ms Doris
Ms. Marsha, I am so sorry for the loss of your son Joey, who was my friend even though we did not talk everyday on a regular basis. When I would call him, he would be so excited to hear my voice, we talk for hours about any and everything. I know that Joey is in a better place looking down on you saying, “Mom I’m still in your heart.” Ms. Marsha you and Joey will still be in my prayers. If you need anything just let me know, because I know what it’s like to loose someone so close to you. I Love You. God Bless You!!!

Hey Gang,
I am finally at a place where I can actually blog. I have been incredibly busy in a GREAT way! I am so thankful for all of the positive responses we have received they have been very encouraging. I have to give a special shout out to our volunteers. They have been the best. Actually a better word would be priceless. We had our first event at Egleston and it was a huge success. I’m sorry we forgot the pictures but we promist not to forget again. The pictures that are posted are the one we got towards the end of the event.
Scottish Rite is up next and I am sure it will be another rewarding and exciting event. Life celebrations are always fun because as the name implies we are celebrating life. This time I promise to have many more pictures. We even have a volunteer who is designated as the picture taker. Well I guess that’s about it for now. I will be blogging about the new health insurance and I have some GREAT news about it and the process to get coverage. Also, we are planning a support group in the next few months and I’ll be blogging about that. Until then.
Sorry for the hit and run. But I shall return, same bat place, same bat time…
