NUTRITION CONSULTATION

Get a free one-on-one consultation with a nutrition educator

The types and amounts of foods that we eat affect our energy levels, our moods and how we feel about ourselves. A healthy lifestyle plays a key role in keeping the body strong, supporting the immune system (the cells and proteins that defend the body against infection) and reducing risk for some diseases, such as certain kinds of heart disease and some types of cancer.

Patients and caregivers may receive free one-on-one phone and email consultations with our nutrition educator.

June is National Cancer Survivor Month, a time to honor the strength of the

16.9 million cancer survivors in the U.S. This month and always, we want you to

know The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is here to support you at every

step.

Wherever you are in your blood cancer journey, we have free support services

in oncology nutrition. Eating well can help you feel better and stay stronger

by treatment.

  • Schedule a free one-on-one nutrition consultation with one of our        registered dietitians who have expertise in oncology nutrition.

  • Access our comprehensive online nutrition information, where you can        learn more about topics like nutrition and cancer, managing side effects,
and find blog posts covering a wide range of topics—you can even pick
    out some new recipes.

  • Listen to our podcast episode, Making a Difference Through Nutrition,        featuring our registered dietitian and certified oncology nutritionist

         Michelle Bratton, RD, CSO.

  • Download or order free copies of:

Nutrition Handbook: Feeding your family from meal planning to mealtime

    • Food and Nutrition Facts

  • Download the free mobile app, LLS Health Manager™ to track side effects, medication, food and hydration, questions for your doctor, grocery lists

         and more.

  • Read our new blog post, Survivorship Nutrition: Hope for Improved         Wellbeing, written by our registered dietitian,

Health Insurance

As you all know it is a new day in America when it comes to health insurance.  We are very happy to see this new day.  Because, we understand the necessity of health insurance.  It is the difference between life and death especially for those with pre-existing conditions.  Below is the only link you will need regarding the "Obamacare" Plan or Affordable Care Act that went into effect January, 2014.  There is also an additional resource link below that discusses health care coverage issues childhood cancer survivors face as they navigate higher education.

Healthcare.gov  is a link to the official site of the U.S. government's health care initiative "OBAMACARE" or Affordable Care Act and provides an overview of health care options available to every citizen. This plan is fairly easy to apply for and coverage starts after an open enrollment during the first quarter of a new year. (ex. enrollment is betweern January 1st and March 31st)  Click the link and reveiw ALL of your options on the health insurance marketplace including coverage and more.

A Word From our Executive Director

I want to thank you for your interest and support with such a profoundly worthy cause in helping children live happier while they are fighting for their lives.  As I look back at my journey I realize how important and necessary it is to fight to live, whether we have a medical condition or not.

This experience and the incredibly brave young souls that I have been blessed to know, have shown me the true meaning of the word life.  To live it everyday, every hour, every minute and every second.

My hope is to be a comfort and support on this journey we share together called life.
